Counseling teens, pre-teens, and young adults in Wheaton, IL, and the surrounding Chicagoland area

 

1.  Education Therapist - school/academic help for teens who struggle with any of the following (ranging from special education through gifted):

•  ADHD/ADD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
This diagnosis can be with or without hyperactivity.

•  BD (Behavior Disorders)
•  LD (Learning Disabilities)
•  Dyslexia
•  Organization/study skills and other specific educational tools:

 

Ruth has developed and copywritten her own comprehensive and concrete academic program for all necessary academic skills to help maximize the individual’s full learning potential.

 

•  School resistance
•  School failure
•  Unmotivated, apathetic

•  Poor follow-through, as with homework, assignment notebook, organization

2.  Counselor - individual counseling and parent/teen counseling, specializing in the following:

•  Teen behavior or emotional problems with home, school, personal, and/or social life

•  BD: including ADHD/ADD, ODD (Oppositional Defiant  Disorder),  and CD (Conduct Disorder)

ODD and CD exhibit authority problems in varying degrees, where a teen is defiant, resistant, disrespectful of rules and authority. Some of the teens Ruth serves may or may not have a diagnosis, but these are behavior problems she is highly skilled in.

•  Addictions - teen substance abuse (certified alcohol and drug counselor)

•  Depression

•  Anxiety

•  Anger

•  Low self-esteem

•  Grief and loss

•  Teen discipline - Ruth has developed her own concrete, comprehensive discipline program that has proven successful for effective home management. This program is used especially for those who fall under one of the following labels commonly used: troubled teens, difficult teens, hard to reach teens, at risk teens, or out-of-control teens.

•  Education and coaching on current youth trends, and the problems associated with them, including, but not limited to the following: music, clothes, substance abuse, internet use/abuse/addiction, the media, bullying, peer pressure.

I network with a wide variety of professionals who offer additional expertise in psychological testing, medical assessment, and medication management.
